Copy Viewport Between Drawings Autocad With Same View

Viewports the same in every drawing
I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010I'm working on a subdivision. All my drawing layouts (sidewalk plan, utility plan, etc.) need to have the same viewports as the others, with different layers frozen and whatnot.
I know you can't copy viewports from one drawing to another but is there a way to have them exactly the same in each drawing? Does it have something to do with the Sheet Set Manager?

You can copy viewports from one drawing to another. In older version the copied viewport was turned off and you had to turn it on from properties. They fixed that in 2010.You can also use the SSM. In the base drawing save a view. Add the folder containing the drawing to the "Model Views" tab. Find the drawing in the list and expand it. There you should see the view. Then you can drag and drop the view into a layout. SSM will automatically create the viewport, load the xrefs, etc.

You can also use Design Center to transfer layouts between drawings.

you can also create a template with the viewports set up for plan and profile in them. just change the propoerties of the viewport. and then use civil 3d's plan production tools to create the layouts for you.i have a handout from an AU class that i have used as a guide for this and would be happy to share it with you. it is a very useful tool.

I'm sure I could find it if I searched AU long enough, but could you post a link to the course, if not a direct link to the handout?

sure...the class was from AU 2008 and the course number was Class ID: CV304-1P
of all the classes i took that year i liked this one the best. mainly because i just hate setting up plan and profile sheets. the good thing about 2011 you can do the same with cross sections now...

You can also just right click on a layout and click on "from template" this will allow you to pick the drawing that has the layout or viewport you want. Once you click the drawing it will ask you what layout you want to use and it will insert it into your current drawing exactly like it was in the original drawing.
You can also use Design Center to transfer layouts between drawings.
